Taiwan's outlying islands draw international tourists

台灣離島吸引國際旅客

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s outlying islands are becoming popular destinations for international travelers, according to Agoda.

Penghu, known for its beaches and traditional stone houses, ranked among the top three destinations with the longest average stays for travelers from Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, and Singapore during the first half of the year, CNA reported.

Green Island has also become a favorite for visitors from Hong Kong, who are drawn by its clear waters and rich marine life for snorkeling and diving. Agoda said the islands are increasingly seen as appealing long-term travel spots due to their natural beauty and opportunities to experience local culture.

From January to May, Taiwan recorded 3,590,894 international arrivals. Among them were 587,558 visitors from Japan and 511,458 from Hong Kong and Macau.

Last month, Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said the airport is expected to handle 40,359 flights between July 1 and Aug. 31, with total passenger volume projected to reach 8.53 million during that period.
