Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom tops Opensignal’s 5G ranking

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chunghwa Telecom has outpaced its rivals in 5G performance, winning top marks for speed and reliability, according to Opensignal’s latest report.

The mobile analytics firm evaluated Taiwan’s three major operators, Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone, and Taiwan Mobile, over 90 days from February to May, per CNA. Chunghwa led with an average 5G download speed of 305.6 Mbps, well ahead of Far EasTone (218.9 Mbps) and Taiwan Mobile (183 Mbps).

In overall download speed, Chunghwa also came out on top with 98.8 Mbps, outperforming Far EasTone’s 69 Mbps and Taiwan Mobile’s 67.2 Mbps. The company earned 12 awards and shared three others, including top marks for experience, coverage, and network consistency.

Far EasTone, which merged with Asia Pacific Telecom in 2023, took home three awards: 5G Video Experience, availability, and 5G availability, per Liberty Times. It performed best in 5G availability, leading with 36.1%, ahead of Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile.

Taiwan Mobile, following its merger with T-Star, shared awards for overall video and 5G video experiences. Its overall video experience score rose to 73.3, up from 71.6, marking the second straight report in which it tied for the video category.

Opensignal said that the three major operators shared the overall availability award, underscoring improvements across Taiwan’s mobile network landscape. As of November, Taiwan’s 5G users surpassed 10 million.
