QR codes at construction site entrances allow public to view daily construction data

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan will launch new measures governing construction sites on July 1, strengthening third-party oversight and requiring daily monitoring of deep excavation sites.

For example, any basement excavation over nine meters will require the upload of monitoring data daily to the cloud, with the public accessing the information by scanning QR codes at construction site entrances. The new measures aim to make construction site information more transparent, per CNA.

Taoyuan Office of Building Administration Director Chuang Ching-chuan (莊敬權) said other measures include mandating construction logs be uploaded daily to the cloud. Information will include workers' attendance and the quantity of construction materials used.

Chuang said more safety inspections are being mandated, with deep excavation sites requiring third-party technicians and architects with professional qualifications to conduct on-site inspections. Inspections include checking the stability of supports and basement excavation walls.

Requiring more inspections and daily reporting will reduce the risk of construction site collapse. These measures better protect neighboring properties and the safety of construction workers.

Chuang said Taoyuan would integrate construction site management with smart technology to achieve greater transparency. The accumulated data will also better inform future construction management policies.
