Order will take Starlux Airbus A350-1000 fleet to 18 aircraft
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Starlux Airlines has signed a contract with Airbus for 10 additional wide-bodied Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reports said Thursday.
Delivery of the planes to be used on mid- and long-haul routes will start in 2031, the Liberty Times reported. The contract for the aircraft was worth NT$130 billion (US$4.39 billion), with an additional NT$6 billion budgeted for the engines.
Officials from both companies emphasized the European aircraft’s usefulness on long flights and its environmentally friendly fuel consumption levels. The first of an earlier order of eight A350-1000 planes will start service with Starlux by the end of the year.
In addition, the company already operates 28 Airbus aircraft, including 13 A321neo, five A330neo, and 10 A350-900.
On Tuesday, consulting group Skytrax named Starlux the most improved airline in the world. The company was also promoted to five-star status, five years after its launch. Overall, Skytrax rated Starlux as the No. 18 airline in the world, with another Taiwanese company, EVA Air, at No. 12.
