Towel maker reinvents itself with smart tools, organic cotton, and bold leap into retail
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yunlin-based CP Cotton has transformed itself from a legacy towel firm into a smart, sustainable brand through the adoption of AI tools and a push to meet growing eco-conscious demand.
A third-generation company based in Huwei Township, CP Cotton adopted an AI design platform to create sustainable “green towels” tailored to the rising interest in eco-friendly and personalized products, per CNA.
The move comes amid continued pressure from low-priced Chinese imports. Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance recently extended a 29.72% anti-dumping tariff on Chinese towels through 2028, highlighting persistent market challenges for domestic firms.
CP Cotton CEO Wu Yu-cheng (吳雨澄) said integrating AI has improved design flexibility and efficiency. The platform enables rapid customization while reducing environmental impact and supports the use of organic cotton and plant-based dyes.
CP Cotton is also the first in the industry to combine photocatalytic and moisture-wicking yarns in jacquard towels and scarves. Wu said the company’s tech upgrades have boosted not only sales and R&D but also strengthened internal culture and employee engagement.
The firm’s transformation has been supported by the Taiwan Towel Industry Association, the Taiwan Textile Research Institute, and local governments. Wu said these organizations helped smaller companies access upgrade subsidies, build brand identity, and develop new product prototypes.
To expand its reach, CP Cotton launched a family experience center in 2016 with towel-themed rooms and hands-on displays. It now sells towels and accessories directly to consumers while also tapping into major retail channels like FamilyMart.
Wu said the original goal was to preserve the local towel industry—but with innovation at its core, CP Cotton is now positioning itself as a transformation model.
