Vice president attends summit discussing web innovations from regional and global perspectives

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) gave a keynote address at the "From Region to Globe: Amazon Innovation Summit” on Wednesday morning in Taipei.

Hsiao welcomed all the international attendees in emerging technical fields. She said it was a rare opportunity to discuss subjects such as low-orbit satellites, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other fields, per press release.

According to Hsiao, these fields will be critical to Taiwan's industrial development, allowing it to keep pace with advancements in global industries. She said the challenges associated with supply chain realignment could provide an opportunity for breakthroughs in science and technology.

Hsiao also referred to President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) address on Tuesday, commemorating one year in office. She said Lai pledged to government support, allowing Taiwan to “compete in space and explore the oceans.”

Taiwan’s companies are actively expanding their global presence, according to Hsiao. She said the Lai administration welcomes multinational companies to consider Taiwan as a key partner in their global expansion.

She said there were many opportunities for Taiwan and AWS to work together on the global supply chain, cloud services, AI, and information applications. Hsiao added AWS and Taiwan have been supply chain partners for decades, from early e-books to the space industry, and she hoped the partnership would last long into the future.

Hsiao added that there was an opportunity to expand cooperation with governments and schools to accelerate training in AI and cloud applications. Through her contact with many domestic industries, she said workforce skills and talent are not developing fast enough, something that can be addressed through international partners like AWS.

According to Hsiao, AWS provides the computing power utilized by many domestic industries, governments, academia, and even startups. Starting as an e-commerce platform and transforming into a cloud provider, AWS has enabled many organizations to move into a digital future.

In conclusion, Hsiao said Taiwan is ready to meet new challenges in the new world. She said connecting to international partners through technology is the key to Taiwan's continued survival, thanking AWS for its commitment to Taiwan.
