New Hampshire Senate issues pro-Taiwan statement
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The New Hampshire State Senate issued a statement on Thursday supporting Taiwan’s inclusion in international organizations and praising strong Taiwan–US ties.
The statement called for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization, and voiced support for a bilateral trade agreement. It also highlighted May 20 as the first anniversary of President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) taking office.
This marks the first time in nearly a decade that the New Hampshire Senate has issued such a statement, CNA reported. The initiative was led by Senators Timothy Lang and Howard Pearl.
Taiwan’s representative in Boston, Charles Liao (廖朝宏), attended the occasion and expressed gratitude to the senators for their support. He said the statement provides encouragement as Taiwan continues to face pressure from authoritarian regimes.
Liao said New Hampshire’s backing strengthens Taiwan’s confidence in defending freedom and democracy. He also thanked members of the local Taiwanese community for their efforts in building stronger Taiwan–New Hampshire ties.
In March, Liao also witnessed the passing of a pro-Taiwan resolution in Vermont’s House of Representatives.
