Around 100 participants join 2-day exercise in Nantou

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Formosa Republican Association held a two-day civil defense joint training session beginning Saturday at the National Fire Agency Training Center in Zhushan, Nantou.

Approximately 100 civilians took part in search and rescue drills, security patrols, safe shelter management, and emergency medical station operations, CNA reported . One exercise simulated a missile attack, causing buildings to collapse. Another involved deploying a team to treat wounded soldiers in a combat zone and evacuate them back to medical stations.

Lucy Liu (劉玉皙), the convener of the training session and a member of the Presidential Office’s Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee, said the exercise focused on six core missions, including assisting with casualty evacuation, supporting police, and setting up and operating relief stations.

Liu said the participating civil defense groups were formed by civilians across Taiwan who were interested in civil defense. The FRA and other groups have not received government funding.

Representatives from the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association, the Netherlands Office Taipei, and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei observed the exercise.
