Tainan welcomes third 5-star hotel

台南迎來第三家五星級飯店

The Grand Banyan Hotel in Tainan’s North District received a five-star rating from the Tourism Administration, making it the third hotel in the city to earn this distinction.

The hotel, which opened in 2022, has maintained a high occupancy rate and upgraded its facilities and services in pursuit of the certification. The Tourism Administration granted the rating in March following a comprehensive evaluation process, per CNA.

To earn five-star status, hotels must meet stringent standards in accommodations, dining, leisure amenities, hygiene, safety, and overall service. Certification is valid for three years and requires detailed public safety documentation.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) praised the Grand Banyan’s achievement at a plaque unveiling ceremony Tuesday, calling it a milestone for the hotel and the city’s hospitality sector. He hoped that the recognition would help boost the region’s tourism industry and encourage continued investment in quality accommodations.

The Grand Banyan Hotel takes its name from the century-old banyan tree and other mature trees thoughtfully integrated into its design. This commitment to natural harmony provides guests with a peaceful retreat within the hotel's 180 rooms, per Taiwanstay.

With the Grand Banyan now joining the ranks of the Crowne Plaza Tainan and Shangri-La Far Eastern Tainan, the administration emphasized that the city’s growing portfolio of five-star hotels enhances its appeal to travelers. This expansion also contributes to the continued growth of Tainan’s tourism industry.

According to Administration Director Lin Kuo-hua (林國華), Tainan currently hosts 926 lodging establishments, comprising 266 hotels and 660 licensed bed-and-breakfasts, with 15,966 guest rooms. An estimated 600 more rooms are expected to be added this year, and Lin expressed optimism that the number of accommodations in the city could surpass 1,000 by 2025, per UDN.
