Tainan’s golden diamond pineapples feature high-quality production and sales records

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the city’s golden diamond pineapples will be sold in more than 10 stores of a Singapore supermarket chain by late April, CNA reported.

Tainan City Government is attending the FHA-Food and Beverage event at the Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre from Tuesday through Friday. The city government held a news conference Monday in Singapore to promote Tainan pineapples, showcasing dishes such as pineapple salad, pineapple fried rice, and pineapple juice.

Huang said Tainan's golden diamond pineapples have a high-quality production and sales record. Safe farming practices and direct delivery from the origin ensure that consumers receive the freshest fruit.

Tainan’s Agriculture Bureau Director Li Fang-lin (李芳林) said the city’s golden diamond pineapple has less fiber and is sweeter and juicier than Singapore's commonly available MD2 variety. She said the city government would also introduce Tainan’s mango pineapples.

Wu Wen-ling (吳文齡), an official from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, said that Tainan pineapples are a source of pride for Taiwan. The nation's favorable growing conditions, ample sunlight, and the expertise of farmers contribute to its sweet and juicy flavor.

The planting area for Tainan pineapples was approximately 1,635 hectares last year, accounting for about 14.5% of Taiwan's total and making it the second-largest production area after Pingtung. Last year's output was around 52,000 tonnes, with Guanmiao District being the city’s largest production area.

The bureau added Tainan exported approximately 3,150 tonnes of pineapples in 2023 and 3,500 tonnes last year. The main export destinations include Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Singapore.
