Taipei begins free milk program for elementary students

台北市為小學生啟動免費牛奶計劃

Student IDs can be used to collect milk or soy milk at convenience stores and select supermarkets

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei City Government began its free milk program for elementary school students on Monday, with each student entitled to one bottle of dairy product or soy milk.

Students can collect a free drink weekly at four major convenience stores, PX Mart, or Simple Mart by presenting their student IDs. Taipei City’s Department of Education expects 184,000 public and private elementary school students to benefit from the program, per CNA.

Kindergarten students still need to wait another week to redeem free dairy or soy products, which begins on April 14.

The DOE said the redemption program involves 13 dairy products and 15 types of soy milk. Parents can pick up goods on behalf of their children with their student ID cards.

The offer cannot be used in exchange for other items, and no returns are allowed. Redemption status can be checked on the EasyCard Company's "Multi-Redemption Platform" by entering the school and digital student ID card number.

Hsiao Wen-chien (蕭雯謙), president of Taipei's Union of Parents Association, said many parents plan to bring their children to participating stores to test the milk distribution program.
