Reunion tour show marks 11 years since 2NE1 last performed in Taiwan
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Iconic K-pop girl group 2NE1 returned to Taiwan for two concerts as part of their 2024-2025 “Welcome Back” reunion tour.
The sold-out shows, held on Saturday and Sunday at the National Taiwan Sports University Arena in Taoyuan’s Guishan District, marked the first time in 11 years that all four members performed together in Taiwan, per Next Apple. Member Dara had previously visited Taiwan for a solo performance at Kaohsiung’s New Year’s Eve party, per Now News.
Formed in 2009, 2NE1 consists of Dara, Bom, CL, and Minzy. The group was active until 2016, releasing two full-length studio albums and two mini-albums while winning multiple awards in South Korea and internationally.
Their 2014 album “Crush” set records upon release, becoming the best-selling K-pop album on US music charts and the highest-ranking K-pop album on the Billboard 200 at the time. In 2017, Billboard ranked 2NE1 as the second-best K-pop girl group of the 2010s.
Known for breaking away from the conventional K-pop girl group style, 2NE1 combined elements of rock and hip-hop, attracting a global fanbase with their bold aesthetic and lyrics that resonated with a more mature audience.
The group went on hiatus in 2015, and after Minzy’s departure in 2016, YG Entertainment disbanded them following the release of their farewell single “Goodbye” in January 2017.
Their reunion tour, announced in July 2024, thrilled fans with performances planned across Asia. After Taiwan, 2NE1 will visit Vietnam and Macao, followed by concerts in Seoul and Los Angeles later this year.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) has reportedly invited the group to perform in Kaohsiung, per Now News, though no additional Taiwan concerts have been announced.
