Taiwan resellers cash in on Nvidia RTX 50 series

台灣經銷商透過 Nvidia RTX 50 系列獲利

Sources say low supply sends price for latest GPU soaring

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia’s latest graphics card is reportedly being resold for over four times its original retail price weeks after launch as local distributors face limited stock access.

Nvidia announced the GeForce RTX 50 in early January. Taiwanese suppliers have reportedly only been able to buy them in single-digit quantities, per CNA.

Industry sources said the top-end model Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has been sold by resellers for between NT$200,000 (US$6,080) and NT$300,000, compared to the retail price of NT$71,990.

Retailer Sinya Computer was the first to sell the RTX 50 series in Taiwan on Jan. 30. The retailer used a lottery giving around 2% of consumers who applied to buy the cards the chance to do so.

CNA cited unnamed industry sources that said local distributors of the RTX 50 series were only allocated limited numbers and that the first batch has sold out. The sources said that given the sales history for earlier generations of the RTX series, it is unlikely demand for the RTX 50 series will be met soon.

Nvidia predicted supplies for the new product may run low shortly after the launch. “We expect significant demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 and believe stock-outs may happen,” an Nvidia employee wrote on the company’s forum a week ago.
