Taiwan sends record 67 athletes to Asian Winter Games

台灣創紀錄的派出67名運動員參加亞冬運

2025 Asian Winter Games to be held next week in China

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan will soon send 67 athletes, its largest delegation ever, to the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, to be held Feb. 7-14.

Skaters worked out on Saturday at the Taipei Arena. Each athlete is not only hoping to medal but also earn an Olympic bid at this qualifier event. Many of the athletes are first-time participants in the Asian games.

Taiwan will field one figure skater, Li Yu-Hsiang (李宇翔), at the games. Li, who began training at 18, is shooting for a top-10 finish in Harbin, per PTS.

"This will be my first adult competition, and my first time competing at the Olympic level. Because it is my first time, I am a little nervous, so I just hope I can deliver a stable performance in this Asian Winter Games," said Li.

Li said the upcoming competition is tinged with sadness as the plane crash in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 29 took the lives of many figure skaters, including many of his good friends. He hopes that he can honor them in the skating rink.

Short track speed skater Chang Wan-ting (張菀婷) said, “I hope I can break through my personal best in this competition. However, I will also put safety first, and avoid getting injured.”

“My event only covers a short distance, so my recent training will focus on starting and bursting. And recently, my results have been very good," said short track speed skater Chang Chuan-lin (張銓麟).
