Vessels to conduct seabed mapping and collect marine samples

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — CSBC Corporation Taiwan said Tuesday it will begin constructing two ocean survey ships for the National Academy of Marine Research.

The shipbuilder said in a press release the two ships, one weighing 100 tons and the other 300 tons, will be delivered on Nov. 26, 2027, per CNA.

The main purpose of the 100-ton ship is to collect marine samples for conservation. It will also support nearshore topographic mapping.

The 300-ton ship will be used for conducting research around islands. It will support larger vessels on short-term missions.

CSBC said the survey ships are equipped with shallow-water multibeam sonar for collecting seabed topography. They will also feature deck machinery and a laboratory for data analysis.
