Signals aimed to promote road safety and encourage public transportation use

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Santa Claus figures have appeared on pedestrian traffic lights near Kaohsiung’s Central Park as part of the city's festive decorations.

The signals promote road safety and encourage public transportation use, Transportation Bureau Director Chang Shu-chuan (張淑娟) said. The bureau has installed LED displays at eight pedestrian crossings, per CNA.

The Kaohsiung Christmas Party at the park features a Christmas tree, nine light displays, and over 180 market booths.

The bureau advises taking public transportation or walking to the venue, as parking is limited. Metro users can reach the event via Central Park Station exits 1, 2, or 3, and traffic control and evacuation will be adjusted based on crowd size and conditions.

Earlier this year, the city installed display panels featuring Florentijn Hofman’s Rubber Duck on pedestrian traffic lights at eight major intersections. The installation marked the duck's return to Taiwan after a decade, per UDN.
