Center to showcase company’s image processor, help boost semiconductor industry
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Aspeed Technology Chair Lin Hung-ming (林鴻明) said Saturday the company will establish a research and development center at Kaohsiung’s Banana Pier.
Aspeed Technology, a Taiwanese fabless IC design company, celebrated its 20th anniversary Saturday in Kaohsiung. The company and the Kaohsiung City Government signed a memorandum of understanding in May to cooperate in the semiconductors, per CNA.
Lin said the center will also showcase Cupola360, the company’s image processor featuring in-camera stitching technology for 360-degree images.
Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) attended the event. Chen said he has encouraged sectors such as semiconductors and electric vehicles to increase their presence in Kaohsiung, boosting southern Taiwan's economy.
Chen said corporations, including TSMC, IBM, Foxconn, AMD, Cisco, and Winbond have established research and development centers in Kaohsiung. Foxconn plans to build Taiwan's largest supercomputer in Kaohsiung using Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs, he added.
According to the Kaohsiung City Government’s Tourism Bureau, the Banana Pier was once a storage facility for Taiwan's banana exports. Economic Development Bureau Director-General Liao Tai-hsiang (廖泰翔) said the building will be renovated into office space and is expected to open next year.
