Taiwan tops list followed by South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Singapore
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei, Taiwan has been named “Best Leisure Destination in Asia” by travel magazine Global Traveler, the Tourism Administration announced Tuesday (Aug. 6).
The director of the Tourism Administration's office in Los Angeles, Lin I-cheng (林宜錚), accepted the award on its behalf. This further solidifies Taiwan's position as a leading global travel destination, said the Tourism Administration.
A reader poll was conducted between July 15, 2023, and Mar. 8, 2024, per Global Traveler. The award recognizes Taiwan’s diverse attractions, including its natural beauty, rich culture, and world-class cuisine.
With diverse culinary options, food is at the heart of Taiwanese culture. The 2023 Michelin Guide recognized and awarded Michelin stars to 44 restaurants in Taiwan.
The Bib Gourmand list included 139 restaurants and street food vendors across Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. These establishments offer a diverse range of cuisines, from traditional Taiwanese fare to innovative fusion dishes.
In addition, Taiwan's comprehensive transportation system includes railways, metros, high-speed rails, and cycling paths. These amenities make it easy for visitors to explore the island.
Lin expressed gratitude to Global Traveler readers for their support for Taiwan. This not only affirms Taiwan's tourism industry but also highlights the warm hospitality of the Taiwanese people, Lin said.
Lin said the Tourism Administration will continue to promote Taiwan as a premier travel destination. It is committed to securing further recognition on the international stage.
