European students complete Taiwan institute’s integrated circuit course
歐洲學生完成台灣半導體研究中心課程
Course attracts 79 students from 10 countries
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) concluded its integrated circuit (IC) course on Friday (July 26).
TSRI Director-General Hou Tuo-hung (侯拓宏) said this year’s IC design course offered a series of lectures, hands-on projects, and corporate internships, per CNA. It attracted 79 students from 10 European countries who came to learn about Taiwan’s semiconductor technologies and deepen ties between Taiwan and Europe, he said.
TSRI Deputy Director-General Juang Ying-zung (莊英宗) said Europe excels in back-end applications, software systems, and basic sciences, while Taiwan is strong in IC manufacturing. European students coming to Taiwan for IC design training can complement Taiwan’s skills, he added.
Emanuele Platania, a student from Italy, shared his curiosity about how Taiwan developed its semiconductor industry and companies like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
Josef Nagy from the Czech Republic said Taiwan has the world’s most advanced semiconductor industry, making studying in Taiwan more attractive than in the U.S. During his training, he said he learned how to calculate, measure, and simulate component parameters and design circuits.
Alexandru Kiraly from Romania said he has a computer science background rather than electronics. The guided instruction and hands-on sessions in the summer course were well-organized, he said.
