My goal is to fight for the gold medal': Lin Yi-chun

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Dubbed the “national treasure of shooting,” Taiwanese skeet shooter Lin Yi-chun (林怡君) is gearing up for her fifth Olympic appearance.

Lin, who will turn 43 in three days, earned her fifth Olympic ticket by winning the women's skeet gold medal at last year's World Shooting Championships, per CNA. She is the second most experienced athlete in this year’s Taiwan delegation, second only to table tennis player Chuang Chih-yuan (莊智淵).

In an interview with CNA, Lin said, “I've won every medal in my career except an Olympic one. If I can still compete, why should I give up?”

Having practiced shooting for 27 years, Lin said she understands the importance of management. She often uses key performance indicators (KPIs)—a common business metric—to evaluate her practice and competition results.

Lin’s coach and husband, Tsai Chih-cheng (蔡志成), said Lin focuses on quality over quantity in her training, per RTI. Despite rarely using up her annual ammunition quota provided by the association, she maintains competitive strength on the international stage, he added.

Tsai said Lin's training schedule in Taiwan now mirrors the Paris Olympic event timetable. Since the first match typically starts at 9 a.m., they have been adjusting to issues such as breakfast timing, intervals between meals, and skipping lunch during practice, he explained.

Lin said she was excited to represent her country at the Olympics again: “No matter how many times I've been, my goal is to fight for the gold medal.”
