Chaiyi Performing Arts Center in Minxiong Township awarded for landscape lighting
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chiayi Performing Arts Center was awarded a German Design Award for its outdoor landscape lighting, according to a press release on Friday (May 3).
Chiayi County Government commissioned lighting designer Yuan Tsong-nan (袁宗南) for the project in Minxiong Township in 2021, with a subsidy from the Ministry of Culture, reported CNA.
Yuan’s lighting successfully highlighted the architecture of the performing arts center while casting a tranquil, amber glow over the lotus pond and surrounding trees. The peaceful atmosphere earned the site first prize in the German Design Awards’ lighting category.
The warm white and amber lights, when paired with the red tile and bricks of the building, imbue the landscape with a calm and nostalgic feeling.
Residents appreciate having a quiet, well-lit area to enjoy walks in the evening. The lights are just bright enough that the beauty of the performing arts center can be appreciated without being too bright to bother one’s eyes or spoil the natural setting.
The German Design Awards are highly coveted among international designers across industries, per CNA. They have a reputation for high standards, attention to detail, and the social or cultural impact of awardees’ designs.
